As an ongoing project, I’ve been helping with simplifying the mechanical design of Bristol Braille’s multi-line braille display due to go to market in late 2019. I’ve been deeply involved in designing its basic mechanical function as well as the complexities of design for manufacture and assembly. Although relatively simple for a Braille display, this machine still has almost 1000 moving parts – it’s been an amazing journey, and we’re very looking forward to getting this fully funded and out in the public.

Bristol Braille Technology is releasing Canute 360, the world’s first multi-line digital Braille e-reader. Developed with, by, and for the blind community, Canute 360 will make reading digital Braille books affordable, practical and enjoyable.
